Optimum Releasing has dropped the first trailer for "Brighton Rock" via Guardian. It is set in the mods and rockers era of the 60s and follows Pinkie, a razor-wielding disadvantaged teenager who is hell bent on clawing his way up through the ranks of organized crime.
At the heart of the story is the anti-hero Pinkie's relationship with Rose, an apparently innocent young waitress who stumbles on evidence linking Pinkie and his gang to a revenge killing that Pinkie commits. The story is based on a novel with the same title by Graham Greene which had been made into a movie starring Richard Attenborough in 1947.
The new version has Sam Riley taking the lead role with Andrea Riseborough portraying Rose. Helen Mirren, John Hurt and Andy Serkis additionally support the drama thriller, which was premiered at Toronto International Film Festival in September and will hit U.K. theaters on February 4, 2011.
"Brighton Rock" will serve as a directorial debut for "28 Weeks Later" and "The American" screenwriter Rowan Joffe. It also comes from the production team that previously worked on "Atonement" and "Eastern Promises".
