Daniel Day-Lewis Played as Abraham Lincoln in Steven Spielberg's Movie
Daniel Day-Lewis

has been announced as a lead actor in "", a long-delayed biopic directed by Steven Spielberg. The Oscar-winning actor is going to portray Abraham Lincoln, the iconic 16th President of the United States.

Spielberg said, "Daniel Day-Lewis would have always been counted as one of the greatest of actors were he from the silent era, the golden age of film or even some time in cinema's distant future. I am grateful and inspired that our paths will finally cross with 'Lincoln'."

Co-Chairman and CEO of DreamWorks Stacey Snider chimed in, "Throughout his career, he has been exceptionally selective in his choice of material which makes us feel even more fortunate that he has chosen to join with us for 'Lincoln'."

The movie is based on the best-selling book "Team of Rivals" by Pulitzer Prize winner Doris Kearns Goodwin. It follows the president and his political clashes with the members of his White House cabinet as the country went on a civil war from 1861-1865.

The movie script is written by another Pulitzer winner, "Angels in America" writer Tony Kushner. Now that the lead actor has been found, Spielberg plans to start shooting in fall 2011 for a tentative fall 2012 release.
